All of my life I have had the best mentor that anyone has to offer. My uncle David Goodwill, DDS has been my dentist since I was born, and has been someone that I have always admired and idolized. My uncle put himself through college and dental school working every single weekend to get by; he has inspired me because I am in a similar situation. The perseverance to finish school is partly in thanks to my uncle and his guidance. The idea of having a career in the dental field was always an ambition that I knew one day would become a reality.

My passion for teeth has only increased since entering into the program. I never would have guessed how much information is involved in learning about the oral cavity and specifically the teeth. Throughout the program there have been many hardships, but I have loved every minute of it. The information is very intriguing to me and it solidifies the fact that I have chosen the right profession. This program has been a very challenging experience for me especially since I have been attempting to finish my bachelors degree concurrently with my dental hygiene degree. At the end of my program I will have graduated with both my A.S in Dental Hygiene and also my B.S. in Community Health Sciences. It is a huge goal that I have set for myself and I plan to see it through. When I set my mind to something I will succeed no matter what it takes.

I always knew that I would choose a career in which I would work with my hands. My mom always said that I had this innate ability to excel in anything that required me to use my hands, and I believe that it still holds true to this day. I look at teeth as blocks of clay to be molded. There is a specific shape to each tooth that is unique, and any irregularity is removed so that the true contour is revealed. I am an artist in the field of dentistry, and as a perfectionist I know that I will prevail.
